Id say male the females tend to be more colorful (red on the stomach area)
mine sometimes has red on the stomach, sometimes not.. 2nd pic there isn't any, first there's a bit but the lighting sucks. is 3" a juvie on salvani's?

Male. Females have a red belly and a large black spot on ther dorsel fin. The black spot in the easiest way to sex young ones.

I agree, male.

Females aren't necessarily more colorful, just that their colors are more vibrant. Males tend to have a much less vibrant yellow base color, and typically they lack the deep red bellies. They will occasionally, still display red bellies however. Males salvini's also tend to have a bit more blue spangling throughout the face and body.

Maybe it's just me , but it looks like there's a dorsal spot in the second pic.
