Sex my umbee pls.

I picked up 5 umbee about 3-4 weeks ago and this one in particular got really aggressive towards the other fish. (S)he is the most active fish, most active eater, and the most aggressive so I decided to move it to another tank. Can anyone help with the sex pls and thank you

The fish looks to young and small to sex. How big is he or she. Umbee's can be difficult to sex when small, but when they reach 6 inch it get less difficult. Look out for black in the dorsal and pelvic fins for females. I've also noticed young males show blue in there top lip were as females lack the blue in there lips. Pics of 3 males and one female. Look out for the blue lips. These are all around the 6inch mark.

The rio mag is one of the most difficult fish for me to determine gender at young age. a sure tell sign is black upside down triangles under the eyes is female. 3"+ watch fish closely and when squaring off the females will show black maybe in dorsal fin or pectoral fins and or triangle under the eyes. if your fish is alone and doesnt get angry try holding a mirror to tank and fish may get upset then look for triangles. if you see them it is female if yyou dont see them it still is up for debate. my best female breeder out grew brothers and sisters and had nice spangling mashaAllaah so size isnt always failproof. i keep gorilus and rio mag and believe gorilus to be more aggressive towards their own kind.

i agree with andy wood completely. see fin coloration he speaks of and his umbee will turn into something special inshaAllaah...they be lookin real good. attached are few pics showing triangle i speak of on above comment cut and pasted from different thread.

Very helpful, ty. These aren't Rio mag umbees tho. They are Ultimate Blue umbee from umbeekings strain. Should I use the same methods for sexing as well?
