Sex of new fish?

We have a second tank stocked with two beautiful female convict cichlids, and we have been trying to ind a male to breed with one of them.

Instead of having to pay $15.00 for a male shipped, we called our lfs today and they told us that they received a group of convict cichlids in.

Our family went tonight and purchased the largest fish in the tank. (the new addition cost $2.99)

Please let us know if you think it is a male or a female?
Current size is around 2"-2.25" & we hope it is a young male.

If this fish turns out to be another girl, can someone PLEASE point us in a direction where a seller or breeder has male convict cichlids available for under $5.00 each?

No worries, it's a male. An odd body shape (reminiscent of an amph) but a male nonetheless! Congrats!

Went to check on the new addition this morning, and we have a pair. He chose the regular female & hopefully they will spawn in a few days.

The pair is beating up the extra pink female, so if anyone wants her please send me a pm. (pickup or pay just shipping cost).

That is what my sister said. She thinks he is a hyrbid on some sort, but all I want is a fertile male fish. lol.

I agree. His coloration resembles a convict, but his body shape is a little unique.
 
The fish is indeed a fertile male! He spawned the same night he was introduced into the tank.

In the picture the male is on the right & the female is in the left side of the photo.

The first spawn went free swimming a little after midnight.
