Hello all, I'm hoping you fine people can help me with the sex of this GT. I've had a 4" male GT in my tank for a while now & had an opportunity to get him a girlfriend today. This new 5" GT was sold to me as female but the guy i bought it from wasn't 100% sure. as soon as i saw it i thought it was male as the colouring is fantastic but I'm not really sure what it is now. When I first put it in the tank I thought I had a pair straight away as they displayed breeding behaviour but after a while they started fighting. After a few hours I had to separate them as they were tearing each other apart. Will a male & female fight like this or do I have two males. I'll attempt to post some pictures I took with my iPad so don't expect great quality. Thanks in advance for any help...

Thanks for your input Follen. All the male coloration is there but it's dorsal fin is so straight. You can see in the last photo of my first post with my original male in the background, that the dorsal fin is so different & it just looks a bit rounder in general which would also indicate female. Anyway, the vent photos are up so a keen eye should be able to settle this. Thanks again for any help people..

Haha, that's what I said to the seller. Picked this guy up for $5. Absolutely chuffed

I would say male. Some males don't start to develop trailers until the 4-5" mark. The pic below is a male that I had last year who looked a lot like this guy. He didn't start to develop dorsal/anal fin extensions until the 4" mark. Although females have a similar body shape to your new GT, they almost always lack the bright colors and reticulation in the caudal fin.

Thanks RD. this new GT supposedly comes from a decent bloodline. His parents come from well respected breeders on the Queensland aquarium forums so I'm led to believe & the gentleman I bought him off is a forum mod & seems genuine enough. I'd really like to get this sorted ASAP as he could potentially replace my other male who doesn't seem as nice as this new guy, but I'd hate to take the original back to the LFS & find out the new ones a female. So where are all the expert venters out there, I need your help guys..

Pair.JPGOK guys, two more photos & then i'll put this one to rest. Judging by the responses i've got it's either clearly a male & no can be bothered to say wake up to yourself lol, or no one is really sure either. If i can just get a few more peoples opinion i"ll be happy with that, so cmon people. please give me your guess. Thanks...P.S. The GT in question is the larger one with the more orange trim..Pair 1.JPG

I still say male. 90% sure. The pic below is of my current male. He's about the same size (maybe a hair smaller) and just recently started growing his extensions.
