it got black marking on the upper fin. Male doesn't have that.

I have actually seen confirmed male carpintis with black on the dorsal.

The only thing that would make me guess male is that this fish's breeding tube is pointy and points backwards. Though it is not fully out so who knows.

At 4 - 5" a male will have a larger humpy forehead. The black on the dorsal is a sure thing for a female.

i can see its vent in the pic its fat and pointing down not skinny and pointing back like a males would
