I have a 18 inch common pleco in a 150 gallon tank, I was wondering how I could determine the sex of a common, please let me know

Not easy, like most plecos the females tend to be fatter. Also attempting to breed them is pointless unless you have a mud pond.
It would very difficult to give a definite answer unless you had a pair which were of similar age and size that showed clear sexual dimorphism. Ingo Seidel, in his book, says that males have larger fins specifically the dorsal. But like Warborg says, its a bit pointless trying to find out other than pure curiosity.
