So I have 2 lents and I want to take pictures of them to sex them but they move too fast for my camera on my phone that I use. I did have one of those mystery pikes that snookn was selling before I sold it and it had the striations all the way from the belly to the top of the back. John had told me it was a female. I thought that females did not have the striations like that. My lents have the striations only from the belly to about where the lateral line would be. I will try and get pictures but all help is appreciated.

This is my female as you can see the white submarginal band in the dorsal. Actually it's more then submarginal! LOL

Here is my male but not a good picture for IDing unless his dorsal fin was up. He doesn't have the white band in the dorsal like my two females do, plus he is considerably bigger then my females! Males are bigger then females but you won't be able to tell until they put on some size! My male is eyebald around 12".

Take a look at my avatar, thats a female. Like tman said, pay attention to the dorsal, as its generally a dead set giveaway. Females have the white stripe in the dorsal, males don't. Don't confuse the pink stripe for a white stripe though, since males do often have some pink in the dorsal. ;)

Males and females can both have the striations on their sides, so its not a fool proof way to sex them.

My pikes have quite a bit of pink and a little bit of white in the dorsal. I will try to get some good pictures. Thank you for the pictures and the advice. Those are some beautiful fish.
