Hello, i recently purchased a red devil/ midas cross, the man i purchased it from had him or her in a 90 gallon with some conviccts and texas cichlids, i asked him about the fish like where he got it how old is the fish, stuff like that, he said he bought the fish a year ago at 1.5 inches, the fish doesnt have much of a hump, maybe a very slight bump( but from what iunderstand some females do), im assuming cause the fish is basically full grown ( considering its almost 2 years) would you guys say its a female considering its small size at this age( also the man i bought the fish from had good filtration and the fish was the dominent in the tank)

It is always a coin toss with amphs. Even if it's a little small, it could be stunted. It could also be a little small.
My male has no nuchal hump at all but definitely a male.
Best bet will be to try to get a picture of his or her tube (if its visible) or vent it.

If it hasn't laid eggs by now, it's likely NOT a female. Healthy female Amphs (and other Cichlids) will lay eggs without the presence of a male. The fact that it's the "dominant" fish in the tank only furthers this point. As for nuchal humps, both males and females have the ability to displays these, especially Amphs. As ehh said, try to post a picture of its vent. I currently have a 10" female Amph who recently laid eggs, despite being the sole occupant in the tank. If your RD hasn't done this by now, I would guess it's a male.
