is there any good markings or physical traits that allow you to sex a Texas cichlid?? Just curious because I want a female.

Females have a black blotch in the dorsal fin.

This is usually true, but you can't be sure with this method. I have a breeding pair of carpintis and the female doesn't have a black blotch on it's dorsal fin.

tru dat fishguy7! Im sure everyone is tired of me saying this, but it seems more often people are mistaking females for males. this pic is of a female, no traditional female markings, no way to tell until she layed eggs. If you buy some, dont be so fast to call it male.

the blotch method is actually a very good way of telling them apart. not always dead on 100%accurate always, but purty close.

I would agree.

mine is only about 3" and is already pretty easy to tell (from what I've been told, anyway). i have some pix in the for sale thread for it
