I was wondering whats The Best way to sex Red Zebra and Demasoni cichlids. and i was also wondering what size does most demasonis start spawning
Thanks

for red zebra, it can be difficult to accurately sex them when they are smaller. But, it can be done. Overall, red zebra females are the brighter orange of the two. Males as they get older, their orange tends to fade some, to an almost peach color. Also, another indicator which will make it easier to sex the juvies is the males will have a blue sheen throughout their fins. this is due to the red zebra males in the wild being blue. the gene is still there, and it shines through even in the orange males. if their fins have this blue sheen than they are a male... ill even give you a perfect sample from some zebras of my own...

my little male: you can see the blue in his fins better with flash, or in the right light.

my large female that i adore. dont mind the stomach. shes too active for her own good:

for demasoni, its worse. I had no idea for a while with my demasoni which were male or female. I now have a good idea, but not concrete. the males tend to be more aggressive and colored. the females will for the most part not fight as much. though once my females hold, their colors can rival my alpha male. and they wont back down to him, lol. hope this helps!

venting is not accurate unless you know what ur doing. most times until at least 3 or more inches u wont be able to tell unless the female has held. in which case, u kinda already know that its a female. so, it can be pointless.

Yes size plays a role in venting... You should research venting and look at some of the pictures to help. If you start venting now, you will good enough to vent your other fish in the future.
