gars have been for some time my favourite hydro dwellers. I am thinkiong of getting some Florida gars so I was wondering if there's anyway to tell the difference of the sexes and how can you breed them...

Sexing and breeding

They can be sexed using blood serum hormone analysis in mature spawning condition fish. There is no way to sex them visually and they show no sexually dimorphic traits.
Breeding has never been accomplished in an aquarium naturally, however Spotted gars have been. It would be possible to hormone induce the spawning of Lepisosteus platyrhinchus this has been sucessfully done.
