sexing and mix breeding firemouth's?

Hey guys,

My LFS has bought in some new firemouths lately and there is about 15 or so to choose from,
I am considering breeding firemouths but i want to try mixing it with another cichlid.

Just wondering how will i be able to distinguish between a male or female firemouth cichlid?

and also, what cichlids will firemouth's mix breed with?

firemouths are extremely slow growers and nearly impossible to sex at pet shop size, so you would have to get a group and raise em/vent em.

Hmm I see, I was just hoping that males will have a "kok" and females will not kind of sexing...
guess not

What would you reccomend on breeding if firemouths are out of the question..?

Im hoping for bright colours on parents and hopefully offspring...

if you wanna make hybrids go to the hybrids forum, there's a lot of ppl there that have experience and have produced interesting mixes, if you just want bright colors salvini, red tiger mota, loisellei, vieja synspilum and festae are some of the most colorful species.
