Picked up a couple belly crawlers from the LFS about a month ago. My first pikes. The smallest (3.5") and largest (5") in the tank hoping to get a pair. However, it looks like they are both males. They are about 4" and 6" now and neither have the dorsal spots. Am I correct in assuming they are both males? I'm going to go back to the LFS and see if I can pick out a female. My other question is, how large do they have to be before the females show the dorsal spots? Should they be showing at 4"? Any advice is appreciated.

The smallest belly crawlers I've seen were perhaps 2.5"-3" or so, and already had the spots. Never seen any smaller though, so not sure at what age they develop. So yes, sounds like yours are males.
