I was considering breeding but am unsure if it’s a male or female. I’m leaning towards female (hopefully) and have some pics of the fish as well as an exposed breeding tube. Any help is appreciated. She currently lives in a 180 with other cichlids. If it’s a female and I want to breed her, should her and a mate be moved to a different tank by themselves?

Mmmmmmm. . . . I'm thinking male. Male tube is usually always down a bit and points to the rear. Female usually only drops when ready to lay and points to the front. Usually. If it's female, she'll lay without a mate. Males are sterile

The verdict I was afraid of!! I was hoping to have a female and crossing it with my vieja. Oh well.

Not sure if it's the male or female but read somewhere one gets reddish gills when in season , could be wrong tho just something I have in back of mind.

Did you figure it out?! Looks female to me, some females have long fins and some have rounded short fins but all males have long fins...mine has same head as yours and I think it’s female too
