Is there any way to tell male or female without venting, or is that the only reliable way?
EFA42816-0514-4BBF-AD6B-34969405D5C8.jpegIt is rather mean with its tankmates, not sure if that indicates male.

Yeah, that’s what I am afraid of. Should’ve vented it when it jumped out of the tank a few months ago.

Pretty hard to sex parrots unless they're excited and 'drop the goodies.' Right now my parrot Patch is working on her egg factory again (she had so many last time they were clumped on her tube). Females have a thick tube that looks like a round straw stump. Males have the triangle wedgey thing. My parrot Kong changed gender this spring from male to female! So go figure. My other two are males, never laid eggs and sometimes I see their triangle peeking out.

As far as aggression goes my females are the worst. Glassbangers. When laying eggs they charge at me as soon as I enter the fishroom.

Mine has triangular projection at the vent area, so I suppose that would lean male, right?
So far mine has been very nice to me, not as much with the other fish. The whole glass banging parrot is always funny to me. I know bps are genetically among the meanest cichlids out there (part red devil), but their faces make them seem like they would just act so... calm and weird.
