Any luck with this... finding very little information other than slight difference in size. Also can someone please explain venting, and does anyone have experience with spectabilis as I believe that it differs between species... here's my little baby here!

cheers, my favourite by far... it's got quite a character too, definitely worth the plunge if you can get you're hands on one, I came across it by chance and had t have it!

The first pic is a great shot, and interesting, but no help in sex determination.
Going by the 2nd, the profile and fins might indicate male.
Females have a less sloped, more torpedo like profile, and sometimes have more rounded fins. Both of these indicators may be influenced by dominence factors though.
There is a "sticky" for anything Caquetaia which might help.

thanks duanes, I am leaning towards male, did have a look at the sticky... some great info, but alas, not a lot regarding sexing, as for venting, what exactly would I be looking for?

I would imagine they have similar "junk" to other cichlids. The females tube is larger and more blunt at the end, the males is smaller and is pointy.

cheers, but I have never done this before... never had the need/ nor wanted to cause the fish undue stress by manhandling it, only thing is as I only have the one, I don't have another to compare it against, anyone have any pics/ dummies guide?
