i've got seven carpinitis escondido cichlids they are about two and a half inches long and was wondering how big they have to be before they can be sexed, i've heard that the females will have a black mark on the dorsal fin but none of mine have they all look the same ,maybe they are still to young to be sexed ?

Probably should be able to tell for sure about 3". Makes will be taller and have a noticeably larger forehead. Not all females have the dorsal spot.

The males develop pointed dorsal and anal fins. My male was obvious at 1.5".

mine all look the same ,there are a couple that are slightly smaller but the colour and shape op there fins is the same, maybe they just need to grow a bit more then.
