I've recently purchased a pair of convict cichlids, and I'm having a little bit of trouble sexing them.
The one I presume is male is a much darker color a very dark gray and the stripes black, and is larger and broader than the other one. It's hard to tell, but the fins may be larger, as well.
The one I presume female is a lighter color, almost a dull silver with dark gray bands, and is thinner than the other one.
I've checked around the internet, and they say the easiest way to sex them is to check for orange splotches on their bellies. I have, and there's not a single orange dot on either of them. Any ideas?
