I keep seeing different info on how you tell the difference between the males and females. Who knows the real deal? Info please......

I had a male once that developed a huge nuchal hump. I only kept that one group of convicts, I've never kept them since. I had them for years until the tank heater decided to malfunction and make fish soup. Does anyone else have any pictures of male convicts with nuchal humps?
Females don't 'tend to have a rosy coloration' - females will ALWAYS have orange bellies. Period. Some will have more colour than others, but starting anywhere from 1/2 inch in size, you'll notice females starting to get orange bellies. Males don't.
Thanks for the replies...what about the gold flecks around the two darker spots on the dorsal and similar flecking on the flanks behind the gills? Are they an indicator of male and female? I know I have both in the tank, 24 fish, 2 are a breeding pair, the rest are their offspring, but I don't see the orange belly colours you're talking about...???!!!

the bottom is a picture of a pink male convit.
the more the hump comes from how it's own way of show you how much agression it has. i had one almost regualar convit that had a hump a little past it's own lips.! it kill aLLOOOOOT of other Convits! i use to have a total of 14 of them(tip to you viewers..don't do it!)

Damn...thats a lot of Convicts. Thats gonna happen to me, isn't it...? Better get another tank for the fry....!
