I usually sex JD's By Gill plate pattern as well as high low body spotting. Also body shape in easy cases 
And I haven't missed a beat yet by sexing Nics by spotted or non spotted Dorsal fin

Male nics have Black or grey spotting on the dorsal..
Female JD's have a more Oval shape and More splotchy gill plates that the blue spltching most of the tiem runs all the way under neath the jaw. As well and the Females usually carry a lower spotting.
Where as the Male carry a higher spotting on the body level as well as more literal spots (circles) rather than splotches that the female has.

JD - females tend to be stubbier... males more colorful and longer fins
midas - venting is a good way...
nic - females are more colorful
no idea about pikes... but females tend to have dorsal spots and the bellies are usually colorful
