Is it true that if the fish has a black spot in the center of the body right below the dorsal it is a female?

Females will have a black blotch on the dorsal and the base of the dorsal. The pectoral fins will be black too and they normally lack the blue spangle as well. I don't think you can sex them until the 4" range...
