I have a 2 inch gold severum and 2 more in the mail. I am hoping that I'll get a pair out of the three. I read that males get the red "worming" on their faces, can have wider chests, and will usually have red eyes. Females have pale "worming", smaller chests, and yellow eyes. How true is the stuff I found? Any other tricks?

actually I`m sure the red eyes is just a trait that develops as they mature, all adults have red eyes

Eye color has nothing to do with gender in severums. Some have red eyes, some have orange eyes, but it's genetics and not gender. This goes for several other species as well.

At 2" your fish is too small to sex. Males won't start developing their characteristic markings until the 3 - 4" mark most of the time. You will just have to grow it out and see.

I always read that red eyes were a sign of sexual maturity in Severums. the Gold and Rotkeils I have kept all seemed to prove this.
