i have a 5 inch green terror in my 125 oscar tank i was just wondering how to sex them,i was told the male have a blue analfin and the female dont, but some times it looks blue and sometimes it doesnt,is there any other way to tell?:help2:

Females typically have a thicker, more rounded body with a dull coloration throughout.

this isnt a 100% accurate way but it can help, the female kinda have a H pattern, there is 2 goldish bars that run on either side of the black dot on theyre side. but like i said its not a perfect way also the males get a bigger hump on theyre head, but my old female had a huge hump and if it didnt lay eggs i would of sworn it was a male hope this helps a bit

G'day Buddha,

Twist's method is a good one(G'day Twist), this way has been successful sexing my juvies quite young. At 5 inch your fish should be quite sexable via various visual methods; more sheen to males body, longer dorsal finnage extending to near end of tail.

The blue anal fin can be tricky to tell, but is also a good indicator.

If you can post a pic I'm sure someone could confirm for you.

cheers

yeah a pic would help

mudjimba are you on perth cichlid? name looks familier

In most cases the females blue fask mask is more soild with less of a pattern then the male's. This is especially true in the lower jaw area. The overall color is much less intense then that of the male . This however does not apply to the Real Green Terror. Females of that species especially around breeding time display a small hump.
They are a lot harder to sex except for size.
In both species females are much smaller than males.
