I want to get a green terror but i want a male. ive been searching all over and cant find anything. i need to be able to sex a juvi about 2-3". anyone have some tips? the ones at petsmart have orange tips on the tail fins, are those males? cause i know only full grown males have those.

Thanks

At that size it's pretty hard to tell. Look for a fish with a more elongated body and longer dorsal and anal fins.

I'm not sure what you mean about the "tail fin" (caudal?) color. Both males and females have the stripe of orange (or white) on the dorsal and caudal fin.

I may be wrong, and some one correct me if I am, but don't the males usually have much brighter, vivid coloration to them than the females?

Yes but only in breeding condition. It's difficult to tell looking at Juvies...

ok a little test i know what sex this is and with the info giving can you tell???

ill post a couple a pics.

so what do you think?

Hey soggy u are not going to be able to tell when they are that small and the colors on the fins of the gt mean nothing when attemting to tell the sex of a fish i have a lady gt with gold fins and a silver saum male either sex can be either color. The only noticable diferences in my pair is the silver saum male's dorsal fins are long and flowing past the the tail where as the female gold gt dorsal fins stop at the the tail bluntly and the male has larger more robust head and overall build when compaired closely here's a few pics.
