This is our Jack Dempsey and I was wondering if you could help me sex it, Its in a tank all to itself (55 gal) but still small 3" The pictures are poor. First one shows coloration (cheeks and fins only have coloration) second shows fin shape

Need brighter pics but the left one looks female because of the blue around the lower jaw, hard to tell from the pictures though try to get a closer pic with flash on and for the one on the right i cannot tell at all. If you look in my thread http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=200615 you can easily see the difference from the blue on the lower jaw.

the general rule for sexing jd:s is that females got lots of blue dots on the cheeks, like a beard. So your fish looks like a female to me.

+1 female. can't really tell from the images, but if the blues around the lower cheek are are blotchy- then you def. have a girl.
