Sexing Jags

I was reading that you can sex jags at around 3 inches or so by there pattern. If thats the case could someone post pics of a male and female of that size so I can see the difference? Im after a male for a single speciman tank and was wondering if I should buy four or five babies and wait for them to grow or just by one by one and grow it out?

Males will have a tighter spot pattern in their unpaired fins. At three inches it's still a guess. A better guess than when they are smaller, but I have been fooled before. Males will also have a tighter pattern overall.

Your best bet would be to buy four or five and pick the best of the group. Or shop the forums for someone selling a larger specimen. Depending on tank size, you might even get a pair.
