At what point can you tell if a jag is male or female?

Put some pics up..... This is my 7ish inch female jag. She lays eggs constantly positive it's female also I've been told how the horizontal line of darker/bigger spots shows its a female .... Correct me I I'm wrong about that part

Great looking fish. I'll try to get some pics up but it probably won't be any help since they are only about 2 inches. I kinda know how to sex them. Not an expert but I have an idea. I just want to know what size are they when you usually can tell

Thanks and yeah when there that small its kind of hard but they grow pretty quickly. Mine was about 4 to 5 inches when it's pattern came in and shortly there after started laying eggs which gave it away
