I have two jaguar cichlids, one about 4" and one about 6". I was wondering, what is the size that you can begin to sex them? What characteristics should I look for? I've read that the females are rounder, and less colored below the lateral line, is there anything else? Also, I've noticed that some Managuense cichlids have dark banding along the lateral line, and some have no banding, just those lovely leopard-spots. Is that significant in any way? Both of my fish have the dark banding.... The first picture is of my 6" Jag, the second is of the 4" Jag. And yes, the 6" does not have an eye. He would not show me his good side, haha. I bought him from the store with one eye, it seems to be a birth defect... accordingly he/she is named Cyclops :)

Yep, for sure the top one is a male and bottom is a femal. I love the male, he's gorgeous.

I had a cory with a missing eye, I called him Winky and he did just fine. I also have a dog with one eye who is blind and you wouldn't even know she was blind. They adjust. It's amazing how they can adapt. Better then us humans. :)

except poor guy probably swims in a circle because he is missing an eye

Actually he does really well. He's always ready to get in a scuffle, if anybody so much as gives him a funny look, he poofs out his cheeks! I hope these two might breed when they get older.....
