Sexing JD?

Hey can anyone clarify how to tell the sex of a Jack Dempsey? I've seen a number of different methods online and I'm having a hard time with the veracity of them. Thanks.
 
Easiest thing is the males will just have spots on their gill plate and the females will have lines and/or splotches on their gill plates. For this reason Females generally have more blue spots on their head/gill plate.
 
Females have blue on the bottom of the face, like the one in your pic..

I have been out of the fish for about a year now :( but I am getting back shortly, I used to breed EBJD's and JD's..
 
Females have a powder blue on their face. Males do not. Males have blue specks all over their body(More Color).
