been adding some geos to my 150 gallon. Have always been enamored with the sataoperca daemon. A LFS has some beautiful little ones (2”-3”) priced very inexoensively. Was thinking of taking a pair and hoping to get a m/f. I’ve read that it’s near impossible to do, especially at this size.

Interestingly, there’s a huge variance in these fishes dorsal streamers. Some are almost an inch while others have almost rounded dorsal ends with no streamers. I’m inclined to think the ones without are female but i could, of course, be way off.

Are dorsal streamers an indication of sex with these fish or totally irrelevant? Anything else to look for at this size?

Thanks!

The streamers have nothing to do with it, as you can see here.

Like most eartheaters there is no real sexual dimorphism. It’s best to buy a small group if they’re inexpensive, let them pair naturally, and sell/rehome the rest.
