I'm almost sure I got a male La Ceiba Parachromis loisellei from fishfarm, but I want to bounce some observations off the forum folk.

Are the larger, more aggressive fish of a spawn always male? This fish was for sure but I've had grammodes and istlanum that fit that description before and turned out to be female.

I see some blue and some spotting in the unpaired fins of my fish. Is this a reliable sexing feature for some Parachromis species, especially the smaller three species?

How big do loiselleis need be before they can be properly sexed? My fish is about 2 inches, maybe 2.25 inches. Are there any marking or things to look for to sex the fish?

I'll try and post pictures of this fish soon. Does anyone else have any pics of the f1 La Ceiba Parachromis loisellei from Ken that they could share?

Im not sure about this aprticular strain, standard loiselli are fairly easy to sex, pics will help a great deal, size isnt always definate

i noticed my male is more colorful and a bit heavier bodied.
the hues of blue on him are amazing.
the female has more yellow to her i noticed.

I got 6 of them from fishfarm last week he gave me one larger male at 3-4 in i can already tell he is a male like big dovii said the coloring comming out is amazing..yet the rest are only 1 in and are very different looking extremly dull. They need time to mature im guessing you have fry from the same batch and are in the 1in range.just wait until they hit 3in mark then the color will come out.I noticed at 3in he is the most extreme and odd hunter ive ever seen in a fish the speed of his attacks are so different from other parachromis fish ive owned he will go to the top of the tank hang vertical and straight down lightning attacks taking chunks out of the head always going for the head.He is one of my favorites now and solo to spare the rest he shows no mercy.

Here is mine at over 2 inches.

Please post pics of yours!

nice pics..looks like females in the pics my male has tiger like stripes above and below the lat line that are not stress related with streamer and the others do not like yours, but at this size its hard to tell maybe another inch will make a big differece. Are they the same fish becuase the last one looks closest to a male unless its stressed.

Sorry cant post pics now my usb port is not working??? but ill go to my parents house this weekend and download some pics so you can compare.

These pics are all of the same fish.

hmm doesn't have much yellow in it did you just get it not sure on the sex may need to wait till its a little bigger

as for the breeding with parachromis the male is the larger more colorful one except in red tiger motas those females can be pretty good looking but are still much smaller then the male
