Hey guys its been a while since I've posted but thinks have finally be settling down. After all the craziness I was left with two Lyonsi. I ended up going on vaca for a week and had someone watch over the fish for me. The day before I came back I got a call the the bigger of the two fish killed the other Lyonsi. So now I'm left with one and I'm trying to figure out the sex. I have vent pictures but don't have any experience venting so if any experts can pitch in it would be much appreciated!

Here are the pics

Is the spot on the dorsal fin something to rely on?
Females usually have black coloration on the first portion of their dorsal fin. It intensifies along with the rest of their colors during breeding. You can see it pretty well on the female in my avatar pic.

Thx gruff master. Ya I'm betting my Lyonsi is female because it has the black on the front of the dorsal fin. I'll be updating with some full shots when I head home

Can a female lack this black spot?

I have only seen two that didn't have black in their dorsal. One female completely lacked it while with the other one it barely appeared while breeding or stressed. I have spoken with members who have kept Lyonsi far longer than me and they agree that females will generally have this black part on their dorsal.
