Hello,

I recently acquired two jag cichlids, i was hoping to get a breeding pair. They were both around 3 inches when i got them, but one has out grown the other by about an inch.

The smaller one is getting picked on a bit. I wonder if anyone can help me sex them;

Both together.

Any got an idea on sex? Should i remove one and give the smaller fish a chance to catch up in size?

Any advise?

Their in a tank that is 151cmx51cmx61cm is that big enough for a breeding pair or will i need to get a bigger one. Currently they live with an EBJD, severum and a pictus catfish, i know i will need to move the other fish but depending on if my current tank is big enough or not will depend on the new tank i buy.

Anyone that breeds Jaguar that can advise me on any pity falls i'm likely to meet.

Kinda hard to tell at that size , the smaller one could be female but not defo sure , keep an eye out for its belly turning gold in colour the females black spots should fade to gold and the males should spread out across its body and underside , hope this makes sense im tired lol

Tank size will be ok for now need an upgrade when they get bigger though , prob have to have them as a pair in the tank eventually if you want them to breed or they'll kill everything once fry involved

So the black spots on the larger one would suggest its male?

The smaller one is hard to tell as its black in color most of the time due to being picked on.

The edjd looks really blue in that pic must be the black background.

Yer that's rite more gold on female , loads of black spots all over male , stick a few caves,/hides in for them to defend if gettin picked on should help while they small , I've recently done my tank in black works a treat , there's a couple done out in blue in gallery that have got me thinkin though
