So i was at my LFS on saturday in search for a female Blood Red Parrot to breed her withmy green texas. I did come accross two of them and they did look like they had some courtship going on so i assumed there was a female in the tank. I pulled out my phone and googled the sexing differences between a male and female blood red parrot and found this. Male tend to have more of a deformed mouth, get pink around the gills when breeding and have pointer anal fins. In the tank there was totally one that had all those features and one that didnt so i purchased the one the totally looked like a female. Just want some feedback to ensure it is a female. You can't sex blood parrots by how their body look, they are to many inconsistencies with the ones you find in stores.

If you really want to know, put it in with the Texas with a barrier between the two and see what happens. Also google venting and try that, more accurate.

You parrot does show signs that it was previously dyed and its now wearing off.

Thanks for the much needed info everyone, i hope the female answer is the right one. I got a neautiful looking male green texas im gonna attempt to breed with the bp.
