Can anyone tell me if this is a male or female? I've had this fish since about 1 inch. he/she is currently around 5 inches and lives in my 125g. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Sorry but I need a closer look .... send them to me and i will ley you know lol. But seriously I'm no good at sexing fish but wanted to comment on how beautiful your fish are!

It may be too soon to tell.
Males generally have a steeper profile, and less dark colored markings.
Below is a male I had.

To me yours looks female, but it just may not be mature enough to positively tell, takes them about 3 years

It's a female, definitely doesn't take 3 years to tell.
3 years ! that's too long. Is that adult yet?

How how is their life span? And what would prove that?

besides venting, how else do you sex them ?

You can sex them by looking at the small black spotting. Males have much more randomly distributed. Females have less, but it's uniformly distributed, with approximately one per scale.

thanks for all your responses! I'm still deciding on some take mates for her. she's housed with a short body vieja synspilum and two eclipse catfish.
