sexing red tiger motas at small sizes

is there any way to sex small red tiger motas (around 1-2 inches)? do they start to get coloration by then?

1-2 inches is a bit small
You can go by dominance, most dominant/aggressive ones probably male. But it's not sure-fire at that size.

Agree sex difference are not obvious when so small.
Here is one at 3 1/2" I had, and I'd be hard pressed to call it, at this size.

Females have few to no spots on the gill plate, and lower jaw.
Obvious in the 5-6" female below.

Now a male below, maybe 6 "

Same male, more mature, maybe 10".
