Sexing Rivulatus

Hi,

I have 4 young Green Terrors in my 85 gallons tank.

I got them about 7-8 months ago when they are smaller then 0,5".

Today the biggest one is probably 3.5 - 4", while the smallest one is about 2".

Till few months ago they were not so hungry, so their growing was not so fast. But now I use to feed them regularly 3 times a day with Hikary Cichlid Staple, Hikary Cichlid Excel and Tropical Cichlid Omnivore.

I need your help to sex my 4 guys/girls.

1 is probably, but not definitely a male. others are females.

At this size all anyone can do is take an educated guess. But wow number one has the best color I have ever seen on a young GT. He (I think) is going to be a show piece for sure.

Having raised generations of GT juvies, I am humbled by how hard it is to sex GT until they pair up. Color alone is not a reliable clue because many juvenile female GTs are as colorful as male and can fool me until their egg tube drop.

From the pics shown, only exampary 1 looks male to me not so much because of the bright color, but because of the pointed sperm tube. Egg tube is fatter and female abdoment is bulging. GT start to pair up around 3.5 to 4 inch and you will soon find out if you have a pair.

the other 3 could be females or subdominate males.

GT's are easy guys. Look at the beard. Very similar to sexing Jack Dempseys.

female gt have beards like female jack dempseys? ive never heard that.
theyre all still very small though. everyone is really just guessing with the expection of the first one which is obviously male.
