how big do they usualy have to be to sex and what markings will male and female have thankyou for the help

Males get facial markings and you should see them at a few inches....(if I remember the basics of Severum sexing correctly).

balton is right. males will get worm like markings on their faces. you should be able to tell at about 2", maybe less. some people say males will have longer fins but my female has much longer fins than my male.

Hi Sean - I noticed that your male gold has very nice red markings all over his head. When did they first show up (how big was your fish)? A lot of adult gold sevs don't seem to have it, and I'm wondering (hoping) if any of my five would end up looking like yours.

thanks, i bought him at about 2" and knew it was a male then. he had nice marks when i got him. ill find a pic of him tomorrow as a juvenile b/c pics are on my hard drive at home.
