Sexing Uaru amphiacanthoides?

Hi,

I have 4 Uaru amphiacanthoides and i was wondering how to sex these fish? what to look for? Here are pictures of all 4, they are about 3-4inches each or are they still too small and young? how big are they when they are sexually mature? I'm hoping to have a pair form within these 4. Any information would be much appreciated thanks.

I hope someone who has these fish for years can chime in. From what I understand, they are very hard to sex, because there is just not much difference between male and female. I hope someone has discovered a way and posts it. I am curious.

The only way would be venting them and even that is not 100%. I have been sold vented males and females from reputable cichlid sellers and they ended up being wrong.

You will have to wait until they spawn and look at the breeding tubes.

Old thread thanks for replying and here are some updated pictures of the 4, the first 2 fish are the biggest and they are the who ones seem to be together alot more and are digging the rocks and sands underneath the wood block. Fish 1 also seems to have alot of little speckles more than the others and it is very aggressive towards pic 4 uaru last one in the pictures. I have yet to see any of these 4 spawn, hoping to get a pair out of the 4. Heard 2 females can also pair and lay eggs over and over?
