Not a lot of uaru threads/pix around, was wondering how to tell the sexes. Do they show obvious differences, like longer fins on males, the way some other cichlids do? Or more/less color on the gill plates?

this is a sloppy picture of mine, almost positive it is a female from comparing with other uarus, i will try a better shot if interested
That kind of looks like mine, except mine has more blue/green around the gills and down the back (the upper third of the fish).
you got to be happy with that fish then with the extra color, try and keep it, not to many people have them.
MY Uaru A's have bred in observing the the outer diferrences the only indicator I observed was head shape, it's different male versus female.
The males head is broader and rounder.. Mine are currently around 8"-10" each and all I have to do to induce spawning is change water 2 days in a row while feeding a heavy diet of earthworms, then mother nature takes over.
