I have 2 uarus that were raised together bought at the same time at about the same size. They were almost full grown when I got them and it seems like they grew a little but one is much larger then the other. So it makes me think they are male and female. Also the way the to act they seem like a pair.

Can you sex uarus by size Once mature?

I'm pretty sure these guys are 1 year old. The one I think is male is 7" the one that seem. To be female is 5-6" with a all around smaller body the the full body male. They might be stunted because they were rescues and had bad hith and were weak just bad shape.

Smaller one in front larger in back. These guys are always tail to tail like this.

I've never been able to tell a difference in the fish other than their breeding tubes. From what I've seen, males and females basically are identical.

Uaru do best in groups like discus, so the fact that they always stay close may have more to do with the fact that they've been raised together and they feel more secure that way. The last orange Uaru I had were not a pair but they always stayed together anyway.
