sexing zebra cichlids

exactly how do you tell the difference between male and female zebra cichlids..i always thought the males had more eggspots than females but the other day one of my cobalts which i was certain was male (due to the abundant ventral spots) had a mouthful of eggs. any info will be greatly appreciated.

actually no, zebra's are a mbuna (african)

I always say more then four egg spots male four or less female!!!
