sexing

i think i may have posted this in the wrong place so i decided to move it so i can get more of a response.

im still getting used to africans and well my question is.....how do i sex the fish without taking it out of the tank/or waiting for it to fire up? is there a way to just look at it and tell? thanks all help is greatly appreciated. if you need pics let me know.

There is not really a good answer for this with "africans" in general. Venting is required for some varieties, but with others you can tell based on coloring, size, fish shape, egg spots etc. Unfortunately even when these other cases can be used it is not always 100%. There is not one common way to look for all different species though (other than venting which requires taking them out of tank). Do you know what type of Africans you have? If so there may be a easier way than taking them out of the tank... or maybe not.
