Saw the king harassing the three females in the tank :) I also have a mature marble and almost mature leo (maybe he's already is)

The females are not ready yet, the largest is about 13-14" (leo). The king is a proven breeder (3-4 times)

So now the question is, I've always thought mature males only goes after mature female, if that's the case..does this mean the female are getting close to being mature ? They're propably close to two years of age.

Do I leave everyone in the tank as is ? the females are getting bit, but it doesn't seem to bother them. They're still eating and acting normally (except the leo, she's been hanging on one corner. She's the one that the king really goes after) but nonetheless, everything is still normal

Thanks for your input and opinion.

be interested to hear the comments from the ones who have bred blacks. I would think the female leo that is 13-14" is older than 2 years old as i have seen females at 2 years old that are only 10-12", i am thinking she has to be older than 2. If that is the case, i think she is ready. I think that it is definitly possible to breed at 2 to 2-1/2 years old. She is smelling right or the male would not be attempting to breed IMO. Has he tried to flip at all or just biting at her?
I know that king is stunning, he is as nice as some of the nicest BD's out there in my opinion!

I haven't notice the king flipping her over, just chasing and biting for now. I also thought that she must be "smelling" ready for him to show interest. The darker henlei have the least amount of attention. She's happen to be the smallest as well.

I can try to put my 7" bd/leo to see if he would go after her but I am afraid she may not be able to hold her own against a 17" male Hhahaha

I do see a lot more white crap, but it could be from the chunks of disc from being bitten...

i would leave them until the females show signs of stress. the male might be gearing up because the females are on their way to maturity.

the only thing that scares me is the size of the females. imo the females need to be the right age "and" size to breed.

that king henlie male been ready to knock any mature at anytime , too bad you dont have a mature female for him mate

I would guess it wont be too awfull long untill they are ready if the male is on them like that.

Great collection of fish, nice to see the Lophiosilurus, I used to keep these also a few years ago, go very well with the rays but my only worry would be if the rays had pups, these cats have a huge mouth and appetite to match.
Love the king..just WOW!!
