bellevue, ne
in the last two days i have had two fish die in separate tanks with out any apparent cause. one was a domino damsel and the other a female convict.

the tank mates are fine and the water params are fine (the fry with the mother convict are all alive and they are only about 1 week old)

just my bad luck, :(

state the params anyway

2 possibilities come to mind

1. The horseshoe crab is a ninja assassin (unlikely)

2. how long have you had the domino he may have came in with a parasite,The convict could have fallen to the stress of reproduction and caring for her fry

Just watch for the crab to do this

:D

that is weird all right. it takes alot to kill a convict. even with bad water params these tuff lil buggers will live and even breed. whats the latest food u fed them? anything new u added to the tanks? when was ur last water change?

cant comment on the domino since i have no SW experience what so ever, but for the convict, was she with her mate? and did her mate pick on her or any other fish that she may be with?

she was with mate and fry. and i didnt notice any domestic abuse but that doesnt mean he didnt hit her where shirts cover lol (when im not looking)

the sw problem has been solved by a helpful staff member at aqua pets in omaha NE

i was using a deep six hydrometer and apparently those dont work too well in our altitude or at all
but i got a new marineland instant ocean hydrometer and hopefully things will turn around.

it was way!! off when the instant ocean read 1.023 the deep six read 1.016

Not to go off topic, but where is aqua pets located by? i know its north 109 plaza but like what major stores is it by?

im not from omaha so i cant be too much help but i know it was on just off of maple and in the 150 ish block range (+/- 2o blocks) it is in a two level stip mall type of building on the lower level. you can only see it from the going towards lower streets and it was on the right from that perspective. i saw it just by chance when on the search for another shop and stopped in and got some of the best help i have ever gotten. they said it was a new location for them (less than a year)

a better way to find them would be to look for reef service because that is their main emphasis for business but they have a great store.

Some times fish die for no apperent reason i lost 14 8-9" clown loaches over night last year. I called in a friend that owns athe best fish store in town and we went through everything water parameters looked for any sign of ich down to she berometric pressure changes in the weater? nothing and whats even stranger ny two black botia's and yo-yo loaches were fine. just one of those days i guess just about threw out everything and bought a puppy but i didn't and i have nice big loaches again well aleast for now.
