today during a visit to my father's house i showed him some video of the tank i have in my living room. he suggested that i provide my silver arowana with some sort of shade in atleast one part of the tank. should i do this?? will it make the tank a happier habitat for my silver?? thanks

What is his reason for sayinge that the fish needs shade. When I had a silver, I would just leave the light on during the day if it was dark but I don't think the timiing of the light changed anything, The Doctor.

i suppose so the fish could cool off, what else would the reason be?? he didn't specify... may not be a bad idea, my water surface temp is always warmer than the rest of the tank by a few degrees. the lights give off a pretty good amount of heat.

Yeah I would I do this with my arowana just because it provides a little less intense lighting. In my opinion, he is a lot less spastic with a little cover than he was when I had nothing floating. In the wild they don't really spend a whole lot of time in open waters. However this is just my opinion from personal experience.

if anything, you want something, some type of object hanging above the tank for its eyes to focus on......There is a term for the arowana, it is called "drop-eye...."Drop-eye is when the eye, or eyes, are focused way too much, overtime, on an object laying upon the gravel........To prevent drop-eye, I have heard extreme measures of people floating ping pong balls on the surface of the water to keep the infected eye looking up/sideways...........

Before I sold my jardini I "tanned" him by leaving on the lights. It made him darker and more coloreful. The Doctor

How would you do that any ways if it is any desent size you would have to shade have the tank. But i know from personell exsperience my old arows did however like the tank better with the lights shut of
