Shallow tank stocking suggestions

First time poster, sorry if this is in the wrong forum

So recently my boss offered to sell me his 8'x36"x16" 250 gallon acrylic tank, previously it was used to grow out coral frags but I only have experience with freshwater tanks 55 gallons or smaller. I plan on building a 55 gallon sump with a FBF for filtration once I'm able to pick the tank up.
I was curious what monster freshwater species might be appropriate for this setup, I've considered bichirs but a tank this big is entierly new territory for me, and I imagine there are a lot of possibilities I havent thought of. Any suggestions are welcome

Multis and guppies

If you go with the Delhezi plan you will need a lid of some sort. Lids aren't optional with polys. Butterflies can get spooked, too, but with floating plants they're less likely.

I hope you post a thread about this tank, because it sounds like it could be really interesting!

I definitely will, I cant wait to get this ball rolling
I went to take a look a few days ago and figured out that sadly right now I dont have room for the tank to be anywhere near practical, but it definitely isnt going anywhere so my plan is to pick it up in a year or two and gather supplies in the meantime!

Lake Tanganyika Featherfins and Frontosa\Cypho is what I am planning on doing with a similar type setup. I have two 72"x36"x16" aquariums and that's my plan. I keep Frontosa\Cypho and they rarely use the upper portion of taller tanks. Lake Malawi Mbuna is also another good choice as well.
