Hi guys, I'm new to this site and new to raising piranhas. I recently bought this rbp with a weird shape. Care to speculate on what caused the deformity? I kinda like it because it's unique and as of now, he runs the tank.
to me it look like it got bit when he was young or baby size, making a big wound on it. It's regrowing. However it will look the a deform shape like that. But it's just my guess.
the lower part of the "deformity" comes way past where it should do, so i think this is just a deformed specimen. it does happen, like the rbp that looked like it had 2 mouths but it was just an odd shaped growth
BTW, if the deformity is the result of injury, why did the fin grow back? With humans, if a portion of scalp is chipped, even after it heals, the hair on that portion won't grow back. Is it the same for fishes and their fins?
yes fins do grow back, but if they are only 3" then they are only about 3-4 months old so that was no injury, an injury to cause that kind of damage would kill a baby rbp. it is deffo just a natural deformity
I noticed also that, apart from the misshapen bottom, there's a slight deformity on the top of it, where the body meets the tail. Not like my other p's with an almost oval shape.
