First of all sorry for my bad english,Here I wanna share how's my aquarium filter works:

-You can choose either to put the water inlet on the bottom(to vacuum debris/fish waste of bare bottom aquarium) or middle/quarter of the aquarium(recommended*)
-You may try any kind of filter media.I had already experiment with filter media e.g bio ball,ceramic rings,pea gravel.but it is hard to clean,until I found gravel sand is working very well with this kind of filter(since some large/small debris e.g fish poop cannot through the sand).
-Maintenance-just shake/siphoning the gravel sand (once a week,during 20-25% PWC)
-Don't put too many filter media,otherwise the water flow will become slowly and clog.
-It is not fancy to see exposed filter system, sumhow you can cover/hide it by set up 3d background.
