I don't really post many of my projects I've done, so now is my time to share one that saved me and many others much time to do other things (like drink beer and watch my fish). I had my big tanks water changes down to science taking only about 15-20 min each, but I have to be home and have time to do them..... So about 6+ months ago I bought a THREE STAGE CHLORINE FILTRATION CARBON BLOCK DRIP SYSTEM from filter guys http://thefilterguys.biz/ro_systems.htm

installed it, tapped into my cold water line for my washer

and I drilled a hole through the wall to the tank, which I'm lucky is on the other side of my water source.

Then installed a swamp cooler float into the sump for a safe guard (if the drain plugs it will stop the inflow of new water)

Then I installed the drain lines to my sewer line from my washer drain under the house. I installed a pee trap and back flow valve (Lower drain lines not shown because i don't want to go under the house again) I would not install the back flow valve under the house again because of lack of access. The upper lines go to a bulkhead on the sump.

I put the line to the other side of the sump to change the flow characteristics (you don't want your clean incoming water just to go out the drain) I tested this with a little food coloring.

My Nitrates where -10 ppm before the drip and now are -5 ppm, I'm dripping at 40g a day, tank has 2 18"-20" Pbass and 1 22" RTC that will be moving soon. The tank shown is a 240g in my living room, I want to do this to my other big tanks in the fishroom, but it will take time. I was not the first to do this but I wanted to share because of the lack of info I found when doing this. Jcardona1 has a great system too if you can't drain the way my system can http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/fo...tomated-system It's not a constant drip, but i'm sure it's just as effective.

Nice and simple. Good job.

10ppm!!!! I don't even see the point of doing as much as you are already. 10ppm is nothing. But I agree the time savings is great.

Cool set up! I guess your heater(s) has no problem keeping up with the influx of fresh (cooler?) water?

Yep it wasn't primarily to improve water conditions as it was to improve time management:thumbsup:

None at all, I have a True Temp 800w titanium heater on this tank and It keeps up with out a struggle (love this heater:hearts:). I don't think dripping at 40g a day does as much to the temp at least from what I've seen, I'm sure if you had 80+ you would really see the heater on much more.

Very nice, but I see one problem. Now I want to do that but I live in a rental house drilling and running a drain isnt an option :( oh well, very nicely done,
